Events & Activities
Annual Quilt Retreat
Retreat is a weekend Sew-a-Thon with fun, snacks and lots of laughs! The Retreat is held out of town, away from everyday distractions. There will be spontaneous demonstrations and quilters can sew late into the night and begin again at the crack of dawn. Everyone sews, eats and sleeps on their own schedule.
Workshops
RVQG sponsors an all day workshop specifically for New Members and Study Groups. Our workshops are geared for beginners and advanced quilters alike. Potluck lunches are sometimes provided, so participants are asked to bring a dish to pass and supplies. Everyone is also assigned a job, such as set up, greeter, clean up, etc. There is a nominal fee for each workshop.
Quilt Challenge
Each Fall, our Members have the opportunity to sign up for our annual Quilt Challenge. Fabric and guidelines are provided in October. Members will then have 9 months to create their projects. At the end of the year, you'll see just how talented our quilter's truly are!
Guild Library
The Guild maintains a library of new and donated quilt books that may be checked out at the monthly meetings. Magazines are exchanged and books are sold for a nominal price. Proceeds are used to purchase newer books.
Tallman Arts Festival
This is a main source of revenue for our Guild.
Each year, we make a large quilt, to be used in a Raffle,
to be held at the Tallman Arts Festival in Janesville in August.
Each member is expected to sell 10 Raffle Tickets.
The Study Group that pieces the quilt, chooses how the quilt will be quilted. All quilt stitches, including those by inexperienced quilters, are left in and treasured by the quilt's eventual owner.
Donations to Area Libraries
A percentage of the proceeds from our Annual Quilt Raffle is used to purchase quilt books that are donated to the seven libraries in Rock County and our own Library. This committee, with input from Members, chooses the items to be donated. We also purchase books honoring our outgoing President and books in memory of Members who pass away. Memorial books are chosen by the Member's friends, family and/or Study Group members.
